Caring for Your Ill Child
The Illness to Wellness Program addresses the acute care needs of local children. Acute care needs includes brief or ongoing episodes of illness. The program provides care for sick children with illnesses such as flu, sore throat, viruses, and ear infections and follow-up care for children with chronic illness such as asthma, ADHD and obesity.
For our patients with chronic illness, one unique component of our program is providing access to specialty care with an extensive referral list of specialists, therapists and other professionals who accept Medicaid and CHIP. In addition, we have developed a list of volunteers including orthopedists, cardiologists, therapists and optometrists to care for our uninsured patients at little or no cost.
Our goal is to ensure that uninsured and underinsured sick children receive the proper medical care needed to recover. Once well, we focus on keeping them healthy with routine checkups and immunizations.
We strive to become our patients’ families’ medical home so that children with acute and chronic conditions are diagnosed and treated early, resulting in less hospitalizations and specialty care, and reducing absenteeism from work for parents and school for children.
